Our School Community

Wilson Elementary school is located in the southern part of Wauwatosa, nestled in a neighborhood in close proximity to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center which includes Froedtert Hospital and Children's Hospital. Our walkable neighborhood school serves the neighborhoods of Glenview Heights and Ravenswood.

We have a committed PTSA (parent-teacher association) and an active student body with numerous co-curricular opportunities in which students can engage.

Our District

Wauwatosa School District is a high-achieving, forward-thinking, and richly diverse public school district serving about 7,200 students and families. Our educational community’s long history of excellence has been recognized both regionally and nationally. In 2017, the Washington Post named both of our high schools on its “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” list. The U.S. News and World Report has repeatedly recognized Wauwatosa East High School as one of the Top 25 High Schools in the state and our District has routinely “Exceeded Expectations” on state Report Cards issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Our District consists of 16 schools: 11 elementary, two middle schools, two high schools and the Wauwatosa Virtual Academy. Among our schools are Wauwatosa Montessori and Wauwatosa STEM. We also offer a full STEM program at Underwood Elementary and at both of our middle schools. All of our schools offer robust parent choices when selecting educational opportunities for your child.

Additionally, our District provides the education for several county programs including Children’s Wisconsin and Vel R. Phillips School.

We believe relationships are at the core of the success of our students, teachers, and administrators. To achieve that success, our decisions are guided by our strategic plan which focuses on:

  • Academic Performance

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Accessibility

  • Social, Emotional + Mental Health

  • High-Quality Staff

  • Culture + Community

  • Operations

Wauwatosa School District is a connected, inclusive community of learners. We serve as active advocates to provide equitable access to excellent academic, co-curricular, and social-emotional learning opportunities that empower every student to thrive as passionate, productive, and creative citizens. We look forward to being your educational community.

Our Community

Our neighborhood schools are nestled in the charming suburb of Wauwatosa, about 15 minutes west of downtown Milwaukee and the shores of Lake Michigan. With a population of roughly 47,000 people, Wauwatosa residents enjoy the warmth and charm of a small town, with all the metropolitan amenities you could ask for just minutes from your doorstep, including; professional sporting events, college athletics, performing arts, cultural activities, and convenient and robust shopping and restaurants.

Our high-quality schools attract people to the area and the small, connected neighborhoods and abundant public celebrations and community events create a true sense of belonging and a desire to stay and grow in the community.

Additionally, Wauwatosa is home to nationally recognized medical facilities, medical colleges, and global corporations. Our business neighbors offer unique, world-class relationships that benefit the education of our students.

Wauwatosa School District Strategic Plan

The Wauwatosa School District has developed an audacious Strategic Plan to guide the District's work from 2022-2025.

DPI Report Card

As part of the state accountability system, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) produces report cards for every publicly-funded school and district in Wisconsin.  These report cards include data on multiple indicators for multiple years across four priority areas (student achievement, growth, closing gaps, and on-track and post-secondary success).

School Growth Plan

Our School Growth Plan is a critical component of school improvement. Each school in the Wauwatosa School District develops its Growth Plan, and communicates that plan with the community. Ongoing engagement between building principal, staff, parents/guardians and community members is a key component in the implementation of the School Growth Plan.
